The Mill House Murder by Sloane Foster My Review
About the book
A killer is harvesting more than autumn leaves in Willow Springs...
Marnie Devlin traded her teaching career for a vintage boutique and a fresh start in small-town Missouri. Now sixty-five, she's finally found her rhythm—until a ruthless real estate developer turns up dead, and the town's Harvest Festival preparations take a deadly turn.
With her opinionated Chihuahua, Taco, at her side and her sharp-witted assistant Ruby backing her up, Marnie digs into a mystery that reaches back generations. The EMT Lila evicted makes a convenient suspect. So does the tech specialist she accused of hacking. But when fifty thousand dollars vanishes from local businesses and attacks strike anyone who gets too close to the truth, Marnie realizes the real killer is hiding in plain sight.
Someone in Willow Springs has been planning revenge for years, and they'll do whatever it takes to protect their secret. With the festival approaching and danger closing in, Marnie must unmask a murderer before she becomes the next name on the killer's list.
And I thought
A fun intro. to a new series and author.
Author Sloane Foster pens a Cozy Mystery that kept me turning the pages.
The characters are fun and charming.
The Mystery a challenge to solve but Marnie is up to the challenge.
I was pleased to find a boyfriend and police chief that appreciated and respected Marnie and her interest and investigative skills.
Marnie has help from her beau Will, and her assistant Ruby who keeps the dress shop running smoothly when Marnie has to investigate.
Marnie's dog Taco is quite the investigator too and sniffs out clues the hoomans miss.
The only thing I did not like was the AI narration. The pronunciations of Taco was a challenge.
I got tired of the AI voice saying Dog Print Emogie 3 times each time it said it.
Which I am sure is cute in the print version.
I really did enjoy the plot. I enjoyed the characters. And I will be reading more in this series.
I found the free version on Audible.
No one asked me to write a review.
My review will appear on Goodreads and all my s.m. platforms.
